Announcements

The 2009 County Christmas is over but what a beautiful day we had. Capacity crowds were treated to first looks at redesigned settlement buildings like the Fur Trader's cabin (which became "Pioneer Pub" for a day). Santa and Mrs. Claus were introduced by Mayor Johnson at the Old City Hall while visitors watched the ceremonial tree lighting signaling the start of the Muskego Christmas season. Kids were able to pet live reindeer and ride the grounds in hay wagons and tractor pulls. The Muskego Chamber of Commerce sponsered the event and it was a huge success and an afternoon of family fun.

----------

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2009 summer craft show. We appreciate the support of our sponsors, vendors, attendees and volunteers.

----------

Thanks to the hard work of Linda Slaby and her dad and the donation of seeds by Horn Brothers, the Victory Garden at the Settlement Center has been planted. A variety of vegetables are being cultivated and we plan to have them available for sale at our farm market in the fall.

----------

The log house is currently being transformed into an 1800's fur trader's cabin. A variety of wonderful fur pelts were acquired by volunteer Bill Larsen and will be part of the permanent exhibit.

----------

Girl Scouts have been planting and sprucing up the flower beds. Their efforts are also greatly appreciated.

----------

Thank you to everyone who participated in our first annual Earth Day Fair on Saturday April 25th. The brownie scouts sang "This Land is Your Land". Mayor Johnson and Conservation Coordinator, Tom Zagar, broke ground for our vegetable garden. We had many interesting vendors and displays, great food, tours through the woods and the buildings and musical entertainment. Even though mother nature didn't provide the weather we had hoped for, we still had fun.

----------

The Muskego Historical Society is looking for anyone with memories and stories about Muskego Beach. We are also looking for historic photograghs, souvenirs, ticket stubs or movies related to Muskego Beach.

----------

If you or someone you know danced to the big bands in the pavilion, rode the mighty roller coaster, stayed in the resort or in a cottage on the lake, rode the interurban trolley to get to Muskego Beach or met your one true love there, please share your stories with us.

You may contact the Muskego Historical Society Historian, Laura Mishefske at 414-529-2694.

----------

Vendor application forms are now available for the 2009 Craft Fair taking place on Saturday September 26.

At the January 2009 monthly meeting, Marge Ingold presented the Muskego Historical Society with a check in the amount of $100.00 on behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Muskego. The funds will go toward preserving paper documents, letters and photographs in the society's archives.
